15 Days of ONJ – Tied Up

I know I am skipping around the ONJ timeline a bit. Still, “Tied Up” is one of my all-time favorite songs. It came out on her Greatest Hits, Volume 2 album as one of two new songs. I’d hoped to hear it in concert when I saw her in Charlotte, but she didn’t sing it. In fact, of the three ONJ concerts I’ve been to, I don’t think I’ve heard her do it live. This was super fun to do, and highlights the unhealthy obsession…

15 Days of ONJ – A Little More Love

Another one off of the Totally Hot album. While I liked “Deeper Than The Night” more when I was younger, this one grew on me. The no-win scenario is one we all faced (unless we’re Captain Kirk, of course) and I really love this song.   Guest starring … Manny the Manequin and Grits The Cat! This song really does kind of sum up our relationship with Grits. She does what she wants and gives zero fucks about us. Still, she is one of the…

15 Days of ONJ – Deeper Than The Night

I puttered around in junior high school, spending hours after school on rust-orange shag carpeting playing records on a mammoth stereo in the living room … until finally one day, I got my own record player. Now, I could listen to my records in privacy. I’d lock the door to my room, huddle over the heating and air conditioning vent by my window next to my bunk bed and scour the liner notes of my favorite albums. Totally Hot wasn’t my favorite. Post Grease and…

15 Days of ONJ – Let Me Be There

The first two ONJ songs I remember were “Let Me Be There” and ” If You Love Me (Let Me Know)” which featured the bass backup vocals of Mike Sammes. While I loved ONJ, those background backup vocals ingrained both songs into my memory. I usually have to do these videos alone, but sometimes, with enough beer, you can force your hubby into getting in front of the camera. Thanks, Amor!!!

15 Days of ONJ – Don’t Stop Believin’

I made this two days before the massacre. Like 9/11 for New Yorkers, I think Vegas dwellers will always split their lives into pre- and post- October 1. I don’t mean to equate the two in terms of damage, lives lost, etc. But you feel differently in a lot of ways after terrorism or disaster hits where you live. I imagine Paris, London, so many cities in the Middle East  – citiziens feel how shock and horror heighten things throughout the whole city. We are…

15 Days of ONJ! – Look At Me, I’m Sandra Dee (Reprise)

I’m not sure why the first guy I was with insisted all gay guys have a diva. Perhaps in North Carolin in the early 80s, it was  some unwritten, but mandatory gay law. Having no clue what gay was supposed to be like at the age of 15, I spent hours in his mom’s apartment, listening to Barbra, smoking cigarettes and listening to him point out all that was great about her …

Ten Funny Authors You Didn’t Know I Admired – No. 5 Will Shock You!

Hee hee hee, I do love me some internet clickbait. Number Five isn’t going to shock anyone I have ever met, unless you were some frat guy I was trying to sleep with in college and told you I loved watching baseball while we downed two six packs. In which case, you need a shock. Anyway … onward to the list! 10. Ellis Weiner – I’m really only familiar with his Dune parody, Doon, but it still tickles me to no end. It is so…

The Ten Things I Love Most About American Ninja Warrior

I am a more than a little obsessed with this show.  It was crazy to hear some of my friends were, too. Since we live 7 miles from Mount Midoriyama (AKA the empty lot across from Mandalay Bay), a few years ago, we got audience tickets and saw some of the USA vs. The World filming. I remain obsessed to this day, and here’s why … 10. Obvs, the shirtless guys. From Lance Pekus to that hot Russian bug exterminator we never saw again to…

My 10 Favorite Things at ComiCon This Year

After 20 or so years of going to ComiCon, it is easy to get a little jaded. I fear that happened to me over the last few years, so this time, I made the effort to see things with fresh eyes and have a better attitude. Thus, I have 10 things I found delightful (in no particular order) about this year’s comixstravaganza … 10. Seeing Dan Parent sketch – I effing LOVE all the stuff Archie is doing and I got to see him sketch…

Five Things I Love That I Need To Break Up WIth

In trying to make life simpler, more zen and spacious, I am trying to do away with clutter both internal and external. Sure, it wasn’t easy to let go of my entire run of 1990s Wonder Woman issues (I seriously don’t know how they thought that bicycle-pants/leather jacket look was going to stand the test of time), but I’m coming to some realizations. I am in love. And I am in love with some things that any relationship expert would tell me to break up with post-haste.…
