DALLAS – Season 2, Episode 23 “John Ewing III, Part 1”

Whoo-boy! Sue Ellen heads to the sanitarium for the first time. Lucy kicks drugs after one heartfelt talk with Bobby. Miss Ellie reads J.R. for filth. It’s a doozy of an episode, so let’s dive right in! Breakfast of Champions Sue Ellen pulls into a parking lot of the clinic and pulls out a flask before her OB-GYN appointment. Holy Crap. That is some next-level drinking there. But that’s all we need to see for now.  We cut to The Store where Lucy is buying…

An odd title, for a Dallas episode, but what do I know? This episode turns up the heat between Sue Ellen and Cliff AND sets up the long-running subplot of who is John Ross’s daddy REALLY! DALLAS – Season Two, Episode 8: “Election”

But IS Barnes the best? Oohh, this episode is a bit TOO relevant. I wonder if I should have waited until November for this one! DALLAS – Season 1, Episode 4: “The Winds of Vengeance”

WARNING: This is one of my least favorite episodes. I read the novelized version of Season One, and the creepy humiliation of Sue Ellen still terrifies me. Even by 1970s standards this is exploitive and gross and I considered not recapping it, but Ray’s coat alone warranted some TV archaeology. Dear God. J.R. and Ray are in a cheap motel sleeping with some women they picked up in Waco. Ray wears a terrifying faux-Native American, gray and sunset-colored coat. I’m glad J.R. isn’t classist, but…

DALLAS Season 1 – Episode 1 – “Digger’s Daughter”

I still want to live here. It can’t be overstated how much Dallas impacted my life. I was 13 years old when it came on, and I don’t think my parents let my brother and me watch the pilot. But soon, every Friday night after the Dukes of Hazzard, we were all glued to the television set. I fell in love with Dallas in a way even Star Trek couldn’t touch. I wanted to explore in Federation space, but I wanted to LIVE at Southfork.…
